A Public Meeting (see full video above) was called on the 16 March 2015 in the Newcastle Town Hall to discuss the Final Report of the NSW Parliamentary Enquiry into Newcastle and Hunter Planning.

This listing of archives relating to the history of student organisations and political affairs deposited in the University’s Archives since 1975 was compiled by Mr Gregg Heathcote.

It includes material from the Newcastle University Students’ Association (NUSA), (1965 – Present) the organisation representing undergraduate and post graduate students at the University of Newcastle, NSW, Australia.

The organisation focuses on advocacy, political representation and organising as well as providing welfare services and supporting a student based food co-operative.

NUSA publishes the student magazine Opus.

The listing also includes archives relating to the Student Representative Council (SRC), related clubs and societies, photographs, ephemera and publications.

There is also material from its predecessor organisation, Newcastle University College Students’ Association (NUCSA) (1953-1965) with Minutes from its first meeting held on the 29th April 1953.

There is also material from the Student Representative Council and bodies of the Newcastle Teacher’s College (NTC) and subsequent incarnations as the Newcastle College of Advanced Education (NCAE) and Hunter Institute of Higher Education (HIHE) including the student publication Altjiringa.
